My Artist Statement
.
My name is Ida Bleu. I am 13 years old. I was born and raised in Portland Oregon. I really like cooking with my uncle and my brother, as well as reading, swimming, and bouldering. One of my favorite things is when I go on vacation with my family in Sunriver, because we bike everywhere, swim, and see lots of nature, which is what has inspired my capstone theme. I love textiles, and I’ve enjoyed doing it since I was little. I also love origami, and have often combined the two in my artwork. I won two scholastic gold keys for my weavings, as well as a scholarship to an art camp at Oregon College of Art and Craft. If I can’t continue art at Benson Polytechnic High School, I want to make an effort to keep creating artworks on my own time.
My capstone is textiles, and my theme is flora and fauna. I’ve loved animals and nature since I was little. I love being around it, learning about it, and I especially love incorporating it into my artwork. When I was trying to pick my theme for my capstone, I thought of what I wanted to make every time I created artwork. It was always nature and animals. I love creating representations of them in my textiles work, especially because I never run out of ideas for them. All flora and fauna is so different, with so many different colors, and sizes, and shapes. The possible artworks are infinite. Part of my inspiration is also my pets. I have a total of five cats, and two dogs, but I’ve had a lot more pets in my life. I really love them, and they’re probably the biggest inspiration for all of my artwork. I always want to make things about or for them, and they also give me hundreds of new ideas
